I don’t know how I ever survived as a working dog handler without the BLOCKY Dogs Dual Grip collars. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this piece of gear is a must-have for any handler with large-breed, stocky or high-drive dogs.
BLOCKY Dogs Collar Use
BLOCKY Dogs is a small company based out of Ohio. They specialize in collars and leashes for breeds known for their exceptional strength and fortitude. Built for police dogs, Schutzhund dogs, bully breeds, or any dog needing a little extra “umph” in a collar, BLOCKY Dogs collars are of the highest strength and quality. Every single piece of equipment is hand-made and highly customizable.
The Dual-Grip collar looks much like a martingale collar on steroids. It has the straight collar part, the handle part, two thick, heavy D-rings, and an ID ring. These collars are fitted to the quarter inch and based off your individual dog’s measurement. Any information (such as a name, title, phone number or email address) you’d like embroidered on the collar can be added, along with any symbols or badges.
I’ve never had my hands on a collar as high-quality and useful as this one. Many collars come with “handles” or built in “leashes” but none are as reliable. The handle is a lifesaver, the two D-rings make changing collar function easy, and the small ID ring eliminate fighting with tags. The simple peace of mind that comes in knowing that my dog’s equipment is as close infallible as is possible is like nothing else. As the owner of an American Pit Bull Terrier, my dog needs equipment that will keep her safe and out of trouble. She doesn’t look for trouble, by any means, nor is she in the slightest sense aggressive. I do, however, need to know that I can rely on the equipment she wears. If something, anything, happens, because of her breed, it will be her fault. Her life relies on the integrity of her equipment and I don’t doubt her BLOCKY Dogs collar in the slightest sense.
BLOCKY Dogs Collar Cost
This collar isn’t cheap. A base-line Dual Grip collar without any further modification, decoration or embroidery is
$44. While the flat collar is only $30, I highly recommend the Dual Grip. The handle makes training, control and movement exceptionally easy and safe. This collar is worth absolutely every dollar. Rebecca pours herself into each piece, hand-making every single collar. The workmanship is beyond measure and the balance and craftsmanship perfect. Considering the fact that you could be spending $8 to $12 every few weeks on a cheap collar or $20 on a nicer one every few months throughout your dog’s life, dropping the $40 or $50 on a collar that will last throughout your dog’s life is a lasting investment.
BLOCKY Dogs Collar Size
This is a heavy-duty piece of equipment. BLOCKY Dogs collars can easy weigh a pound or two. The smallest neck size a BLOCKY Dogs collar will fit is 15″. However, just because your dog CAN wear a BLOCKY Dogs collar doesn’t mean he SHOULD. As pretty, stunning and well-made as these collars are, they’re too much collar for many dogs. Even some smaller American Pit Bull Terriers may not be able to model a BLOCKY Dogs’ collar properly.
BLOCK Dogs collars come in two widths: 2 inch and 1.5 inch. The 1.5 inch collar, to me, seems to be plenty enough collar for all but the biggest dogs. Working dogs, such as police or Schutzhund dogs, may also be in need of the 2 inch width collar due to the nature of their work.
This collar cleans up like a charm. I have a light-colored collar (khaki) that has been drug lengthwise through every type of mud, grub and grass that it possibly can be. It cleans up as if it were brand new quickly and with a little elbow grease. The collars are washer safe, as well.
My one complaint with this collar (and one that is easily dealt with) is that the “handle” on my Dual Grip slides down on my American Pit Bull Terrier’s neck. I often find myself reaching for a handle that isn’t there! It is now a habit, however, to reach for my dog’s handle on the side of her neck and not on top. Once again, the position of the BLOCKY Dogs Dual Grip handle is a thoughtful consideration of Rebecca’s. With the weight of the handle and rings on the side of your dog’s neck, the buckle doesn’t sit in your dog’s windpipe. If you get embroidery done, as well, the slight added weight will off-set the position of the handle. In any case, it becomes habit to reach to the side for the handle instead of on top.
BLOCKY Dogs Test Dog
The BLOCKY Dogs Dual Grip collar was proudly tested by Cheyla, a 70 pound American Pit Bull Terrier. You can find out more about her here.
BLOCKY Dogs Collar Rating
I happily rate this product at a full 5 out of 5 stars. For any handler and owner of a giant, bully, or working dog, this product is an absolute MUST HAVE. You can get yours at Rebecca’s site, BLOCKY Dogs.
